Stepping into the shoes of Queen Charlotte, Bridgerton’s formidable monarch, was a daunting task for actor India Amarteifio. But Golda Rosheuvel, who established the character, welcomed her younger counterpart with open arms to Shondaland’s new hit Netflix prequel series, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. “I have created this character in this world, but I honor that by passing over the chalice,” Rosheuvel explains in this video, which reflects on the power and vulnerability of the royal. The two actors reveal what they discussed ahead of shooting, how Amarteifio prepared for the role, and the aspects of Queen Charlotte that fans get to see for the first time in this series. Additionally, the actors wanted to ensure Charlotte’s humanity came through in each scene, playing her as a mother, wife, and friend rather than focusing on her status. Cast members Corey Mylchreest and Sam Clemmett also describe being part of Queen Charlotte’s world and the resonant themes of the series.
