The visual scope of the story of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, Shondaland’s hit Bridgerton prequel series now on Netflix, is an essential element in understanding the character and her love story with King George. In this video, director and executive producer Tom Verica and director of photography Jeffrey Jur take fans through the making of a scene and explain how they work together to build the world of the ton. The pair, who have worked together for more than a decade, describe their shared vision to “keep it light and keep it easy” on set, as well as how color, movement, and composition are key in each scene. While they wanted to retain some of the style of Bridgerton, there was also an aim to bring in a “softer” aesthetic for the earlier timeline, as they showcase here.
