No wedding is complete without music. And for any grand nuptials hosted by Bridgerton’s Queen Charlotte, only the best will do. In the case of Anthony and Edwina’s wedding in Shondaland’s hit Netflix series, Edwina walks down the aisle toward her husband-to-be (or so she thinks) to a classical rendition of Harry Styles’ “Sign of the Times” performed by musicians in the scene — or rather, that’s what you’re supposed to think. Bridgerton music supervisor Sarah Bridge explains how the musicians on camera are actually miming playing their instruments, with their movements set to eventually match with the pop music track added in postproduction after the scene has been filmed. Meanwhile, production sound mixer Tim Surrey and the rest of the sound department are responsible for recording all the actors’ dialogue in the scene, which entails attaching microphones to each actor’s costume as well as making sure none of the equipment noise and outside city noise from modern-day London can be detected. In this video, we see how music and sound mixing work seamlessly together to add another layer of depth to Anthony and Edwina’s dramatic wedding scene.

Bridgerton is now available to stream on Netflix.
