One of the best parts — among many — of the Bridgerton viewing experience is discovering the instrumental covers of famous pop songs that are peppered throughout the hit Netflix series from Shondaland. Season one featured hits by Ariana Grande and Maroon 5, and in season two, Harry Styles’ “Sign of the Times” and Pink’s “What About Us” perked up the ears of listeners. Also included in the incredible music heard in the second season of Bridgerton are classical versions of iconic pop numbers, like “Material Girl” by Madonna and a heart-wrenching instrumental of “You Oughta Know” by Alanis Morissette. The latter piece surely stands alone in the emotions it conveys for the characters. As music supervisor Justin Kamps told Shondaland:

This is one of my favorite covers of this season because of the way it transforms Alanis’ original recording into something with a totally different sound and emotional level. It plays at a point where on another show you might have an explosive end to the episode, but instead we have this lovely track that now has this anticipatory feel, bringing you along as Kate and Anthony discuss what they’re going to do — Kate is begging Anthony to continue with the plan and marry her sister. [Adding to] the emotions that we’re left with after he agrees to do that, this song has a propulsive feeling that brings the viewer along and helps to push “play” on that next episode right away.

But imagine what happens when you add Morissette’s vocals over Duomo & Kroma’s instrumentation? In honor of the second season of Bridgerton, the legendary artist revisited her lead hit single from the release of 1995’s Jagged Little Pill. The result: a moving, haunting rendition of an already beautiful song, courtesy of this special video performance from Netflix. Enjoy!
